Exercise in Infancy!

Take action to promote healthy weight in your baby!

  • Talk and play with your baby on the ground
  • Provide “tummy time” every day for babies less than six months of age. Tummy time is a mini-workout for your baby and allows him or her to build strength in the back, legs, arms, and neck. Lying on their stomach prepares them for learning to roll over and sit.
  • Do NOT place a baby on their stomach when putting them to sleep as this can cause sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  • As babies grow stronger, they may learn to balance on their hands and knees and move around by pushing off with their knees. By crawling, they are building muscles that will soon allow him or her to walk.
  • Watch your baby closely while letting him or her move freely to explore inside and outside
  • To help your baby learn to crawl:
  • Place toys and other objects your baby likes just out of their reach.
  • Use pillows, boxes, and soft cushions to build mazes for your baby to move through.
