April is National Stress Awareness Month!

Stress is a very common feeling in the busy world we live in.

This can be especially true if you have a family, schedules to manage, appointments to attend, meals to plan, etc. etc. etc. Stress can be emotional, physical, or mental and can have a negative effect on our health. In honor of National Stress Awareness Month, let’s take the time to figure out how to de-stress our lives a bit!

Every family needs to take time to de-stress. Think to yourself, when was the last time that you and your family took a break to just relax? It could be going for a bike ride, playing a musical instrument, calling a friend to talk, reading, exercising, baking, etc.

Here are some easy ideas on how to de-stress this week!

  1. Set aside “me time” this week for the whole family. Take 30 minutes to do something that helps each of you de-stress. It could be anything from taking a walk to reading a book. You decide!
  2. Exercise regularly. Exercise is known to help relieve stress & keep you healthy.
  3. Begin your day with a balanced breakfast. Eating breakfast helps fuel your body for the day!
  4. Try planning your meals for the week ahead of time. Or better yet… make a few meals over the weekend to help when you are in need of a quick meal during the week!

If you feel that the stressors in your life are becoming more and more overwhelming, talk to your WIC Educator or a Registered Dietitian for some other helpful resources!
