June is National Fruit & Vegetable Month!

Eating a diet rich in colorful fruits & vegetables helps reduce your risk of certain chronic diseases, helps with weight managements, can help boost your immune system & provides numerous vitamins & minerals that our bodies need! In honor of National Fruit & Vegetable Month, we are focusing on eating fruits & vegetables in all the different colors of the rainbow to help bodies stay strong & healthy! And did you know that each color of the rainbow indicates certain health benefits that a fruit or a vegetable has? This is why it is important to eat a variety of different fruits and vegetables.

Check out what each color of the rainbow does for our bodies…

  • Blue/ Purple Fruits & Veggies are full of antioxidants that help our bodies fight disease! Examples include: blueberries, grapes, cabbage, beets, etc.
  • Green Fruits & Veggies are good for our immune systems & keep our bones strong Examples include: broccoli, leafy greens, kiwi, celery, green grapes, etc.
  • Orange Fruits & Veggies have lots of Vitamin A & are good for your eyes. Examples include: oranges, peaches, bell peppers, carrots, etc.
  • Yellow Fruits & Veggies are good for many things including our skin, nails & muscles! Examples include: bananas, pineapple, squash, corn, etc.
  • Red Fruits & Veggies are good for your heart! Examples include: apples, cherries, strawberries, watermelon, etc.

*As a challenge this week, encourage your family to try at least 3 different colors of fruits & vegetables each day. The possibilities are endless!
